Be the first to know when the Heininger Traction Board is available.
The Heininger Off-Road Traction Board helps you get your vehicle unstuck on your own, without a tow truck, a winch or a second vehicle. When a tire loses grip in soft sand, deep mud or snow, pressing the gas only digs it deeper. Wedge a board under the spinning tire and it gets a firm, studded surface to climb onto, so you can drive out slowly onto solid ground.
The board is 41.3″ long and 11.8″ wide, which spreads your vehicle's weight over a large area and gives the tire more room to build momentum. Raised studs and deep channels on top grip the tread, while a criss-cross pattern underneath stops the board from sliding out. The tapered ends double as a shovel for clearing a path, and four molded handles make the board easy to carry and position.
It comes with a carry bag, is rated from −22°F to 140°F for year-round use, fits SUVs, pickups, Jeeps, vans and most 4x4s, and can be bolted to a roof rack, bed rack or rear carrier using the pre-drilled mounting holes, so it's always with you when you need it.
Stuck? Drive out.
Slide a board under the spinning tire, ease on the throttle and drive out of sand, mud or snow. No tow truck, no waiting.
One set. Every terrain.
Most drivers get stranded in one of three places: soft sand, deep mud or packed snow. Each one beats your tires in a different way, and a single Heininger board is built to handle all three. Keep it in the vehicle year-round and you're covered in every season.
Sand
Beaches & dunes
Soft sand gives way under a spinning tire. The long, wide board spreads your vehicle's weight so the tire floats on top and climbs out instead of sinking.
Mud
Muddy trails
Mud coats your tread until it's as smooth as a slick. The raised studs cut through that slippery layer and give the tire real edges to grab onto, even in deep, water-filled ruts.
Snow & ice
Winter roads
Rated down to −22°F, the board stays tough in freezing weather. Keep one in the trunk for snowbanks, icy driveways, unplowed side streets and ski-trip parking lots.
Designed to get you moving
Every stud, channel, handle and edge on a Heininger board is there for a reason. Together they give your tires grip, keep the board in place under load and make the whole recovery quicker and easier. Here's how each part helps when you're stuck.

Grip on both sides
Rows of raised studs and deep channels lock onto your tire tread from the first turn. The underside has its own criss-cross grip pattern, so the board digs into the ground instead of shooting out behind the wheel.
- Raised studs bite into the tread for instant grip
- Deep channels push sand, mud and slush out of the way
- Grip on the underside keeps the board in place under load

Handles plus a built-in shovel
Four molded handles let you carry, place and pull the board with gloves on. The tapered ends double as a shovel for clearing sand, mud or snow from in front of your tires, so you don't need to pack a separate spade.
- 4 grippy handles for easy carrying and positioning
- Shovel-shaped ends for digging out your tires
- Easy to pull free after use, even when half-buried
Three steps to solid ground
You don't need off-road experience, special tools or a second vehicle. Clear a path, wedge the board in and drive out slowly. Most recoveries are done in just a few minutes, and the board is ready to use again right away.
Clear the path
Stop spinning your wheels. Use the shovel end to dig away sand, mud or snow from in front of the stuck tire.
Wedge the board
Push the board firmly under the front of the tire at a slight angle, studs facing up, as far in as it will go.
Drive out slowly
Keep the wheels straight and accelerate gently. The tire grips the studs, climbs the board and rolls onto firm ground.

Always with you. Never in the way.
Recovery gear only helps if it's with you. Pre-drilled mounting holes let you bolt the board to a roof rack, bed rack or rear-door carrier, so it rides along on every trip and stays out of the way until you need it.
- Mounting holes fit a wide range of racks and carriers
- Just 2.4″ thick for a low profile on your rack
- Carry bag included for clean storage in the trunk

Heininger Traction BoardQuestions, answered
Quick answers on fit, use, mounting and care, so you know what to expect before your first trip.
Will it fit my vehicle?
Yes, if you drive an SUV, pickup, Jeep, van or crossover. At 11.8″ wide, the board suits most road, all-terrain and mud tires.
Do I need one board or two?
Each order includes one board, which is often enough to free a single stuck tire. For deep sand or mud, many drivers carry two so they can place one under each spinning wheel on the same axle.
Can I use it in snow and ice?
Yes. The board is rated from −22°F to 140°F, so it works just as well on a winter road as on a summer beach.
How do I mount it on my vehicle?
Use the pre-drilled holes to bolt the board to a roof rack, bed rack or tailgate carrier. Or keep it in the included carry bag in the trunk.
Will the board fly out from under the tire?
Not with steady throttle. The grip pattern on the underside holds the board in place. Problems usually come from spinning the tire too fast, so ease on the gas.
How do I clean it?
Knock off loose sand or mud, then rinse with a hose. Let it dry before putting it back in the bag.
Go further. Get back.
Beach weekend, forest trail or snowy commute, your trip shouldn't end waiting for a tow truck. Pack one and get yourself out.
